More about me than you ever wanted to know
I am a mother, a friend, a daughter, a granddaughter, a teacher, an advocate, a fighter, a partner, an auntie, a learner, a reader, a writer, a strong fighter for independence!
I grew up on a small farm with my mother who was a special education teacher and my older sister. I graduated from High School in a small town in Central Oregon. I then moved to Lewiston, Idaho where I attended Lewis Clark State College. While attending college, I worked for a developmental disability agency as a job coach and a developmental aid. When I graduated from college with my degree in Elementary Education and an Endorsement in Special Education. I took a few months off for the birth of my daughter before I returned back to work and became a Developmental Specialist and worked with adults with disabilities. After a few years of working for the agency, I went to work for Lewis Clark Head start program where I was a preschool teacher for two years. Talk about age shock! It was a great couple of years, but then I was offered a job as a Special Education teacher in Orofino at the Junior High. My last year teaching in Orofino is the last year the junior high building was open. (My classroom was in the condemned part of the building) I spent six years in Orofino before I decided to leave teaching for a while and went to work for the Department of Disabilities where I was a service coordinator for children birth to three years old and the state reviewer for Intensive Behavior Intervention plans.
Then one day, I decided to apply for a job in the Moscow School District. I honestly wasn't all that certain I really even wanted the job, but since they called me for an interview, I decided that it was a good idea to keep my interviewing skills fresh. I honestly walked into the interview, thinking to myself "I don't want this job, I won't take this job if they offer it to me." Crazy enough - they offered me the job and guess what???? I took it! I have not regretted that decision at all. I work in an amazing building where the staff all care about students and each other. I am supported by an amazing administration and I have the best support team I could ever wish for working with me in my classroom. I am in my 10th year at Moscow High School and I wouldn't change it for anything.
I obtained my Master's Degree from University of Idaho in 2017. I continue to be blessed with many things in my life and continue to advocate and work hard for students with disabilities.
